Istanbul Lisesi, today a Turkish state school focussing on natural sciences, has provided an excellent secondary education with a long tradition. Since 1956 the school has been offering a bilingual schedule (German/ Turkish); all the natural sciences, German and English are taught by German teachers, following the state curriculae of Turkey and Germany. For becoming one of Istanbul Lisesi’s students they have to pass a national test with the highest score.

Since German is the first and compulsory foreign language as well as being the lingua franca in all science subjects and German literature lessons up to the Turkish Lise Diploma, students are also enabled to pass the Deutsches Sprachdiplom or/ and the German Abitur, the broadly accepted German certificate of secondary education which qualifies to enter universities within the European Union and the USA.

With its high standards Istanbul Lisesi can look back on graduates who have provided their knowledge in responsible positions among sciences, economics and social care in Turkey. Thus they have become an inevitable bridge for the intercultural communication between Turkey and Germany.
